David A. Chalupnik, CFA

Head of Equities

David serves in a strategic role as head of equities for Nuveen Asset Management. He is also the manager of the Dividend Value, Large Cap Growth Opportunities, and Large Cap Select Strategies and related institutional portfolios.

As head of equities, David is responsible for the investment process and performance of the firm’s actively managed equity products. He oversees the firm’s proprietary investment process that begins and ends with thorough research and collaboration by the firm’s portfolio managers, fundamental research analysts and quantitative analysts. The three groups collaborate to identify the best opportunities across all equity sectors and to make timely buy and sell decisions. They focus intently on the key drivers of stock performance — business fundamentals, valuation and catalysts — that will unlock value and ignite performance.

As a company spokesperson on equity market issues, David is featured in local and national media outlets throughout the year. He has appeared on a number of business programs for CNBC TV, Bloomberg TV and Bloomberg Radio. David has also been quoted in major business publications such as Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Investor’s Business Daily, the Associated Press, Reuters, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

David’s background features more than a quarter-century of experience in equity market investing. He joined the firm in 2002 as head of equities. Previously, he served as chief investment officer for Duff & Phelps Investment Management Company. David was also head of the Equity Investment division of Allstate Insurance Company. He began working in the financial industry in 1984.

David graduated from DePaul University with a B.S. in commerce and an M.B.A. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
